Farm Record 001: An Update + Our First Happy Camper Estate Sale
It’s Thursday, October 28, 2021. And it’s been almost four years since I first mentioned Celie and Squeak (or, the initial idea of it) to what used to be Khafra’s IG followers and newsletter subscribers.
If you’ve been living life with me via the Internet, you know Khafra’s long gone.
I carried all my skills from helping small businesses with communications, marketing, and general development over to corporate America where Holley and I have been helping businesses figure out learning and development needs for the creatives they serve and the creative intra and entrepreneurs that help said businesses run and grow.
I also spent the last two years deep-diving into, then leading, social impact and equity efforts in food, health, and wellness. But enough about work.
Let’s catch up on the rest of life and how we’ve been living it.
Holley and I did buy that house we told you we were getting.
But instead of a 14-acre farm, we’ve settled on a 3-acre homestead, 1.5 of which is currently all ours to steward. And, as you might imagine, we’re deep into making the most of it.
And what have we learned while making the most of it?
We are wildly capable, but we need more help than we ever imagined.
Help and resources are ever abundant. (That photo above features me receiving some much needed help from our business partner and chosen family, Marla, btw. We finally got our potted banana leaf trees in-ground behind the outdoor kitchen area. I’m almost certain we need another one to make the pair a trio.)
A more beautiful and infinitely fulfilling life is always available to us.
For now, we’ve been having so much fun figuring out how to share our home and family with you - which will soon include a soft launch of curated goods direct from our farm and local Winston Salem community - that I thought I’d drop in and mark this moment with a little joy.
